Serve at BVBC
God designed the church to function much like the human body. Every part is important and every part works together for the good of the whole body (Ephesians 4:17-24). God made each one of us with gifts, talents and passions to contribute to the healthy growth of the church. At Brandywine Valley Baptist Church, we strive for 100% spiritual employment and it is our goal to help you find a place you can meaningfully serve. The best way to discover where to serve is organically through building relationships in small groups and adult education classes. Through relationships, you will uncover needs and see opportunities to meet those needs. In addition, we have many service teams that would love to have you serve with them. Here is a brief list of current teams that have opportunities:
MOPPETS are the adults who provide childcare during the MOPS meeting. Can you play a game with a preschoolers, rock a baby or read a child’s book? If yes, you have the skills needed to be a MOPPET! MOPPETS volunteer on the second Thursday of each month 8:45-11:15 a.m. To volunteer: send an email or call Nancy Weaver at 302-275-0314.
Awana – Two types of volunteers are needed on Wednesday nights: Listeners and Leaders. Listeners hear children recite Bible verses during the first 30 minutes of Awana (6:30-7 p.m.). Leaders guide the children from activity-to-activity and build relationships with the kids (6:30-8 p.m.). They are not responsible for teaching Bible lessons. Awana runs September through May. To volunteer: signup online.
Wednesday Work Ministry – Join a group of handymen and handywomen who every Wednesday work on renovation projects at BVBC. The team is looking for people with general home improvement skills but especially want people with drywall installation/finishing skills and painters (if you’ve painted a wall before you qualify). To learn more contact Marty Marcus.
English Classes (ESL) Hospitality and Food Donations- English as a Second Language (ESL) needs hospitality assistance with setting up and cleaning up refreshements for class participants. ESL also needs donatations of coffee/tea and individually wrapper snacks. Write “ESL” on the items and leave them in the kitchen. ESL meets September through April. Contact Lisa G. to volunteer with hospitality.
Ushers– Ushers help set the stage for the worship experience. They are one of the first people that a worshiper encounters. A friendly greeting and a few words of conversation can help set the right tone. Ushers also hand out the Ministry News (bulletin), help people find seats and take up the offering. Church members and non-members, men and women of all ages, including teenagers, are invited to volunteer. Contact Rick Hammond for more information.
