BVBC Serving in the Local Community

Food Drive

Throughout the year we partner with local ministries to serve our community. During the fall of 2017, we are collecting non-perishable food for the Sunday Breakfast Mission’s Great Thanksgiving Food Drive. Items will be collected at BVBC from October 15 until Sunday, November 5, 2017. Leave the items in the barrel in the church Lobby. Below is a list of recommended non-perishable items:

Baby Food
Boxed Stuffing Mix
Canned Beef Stew
Canned Beefaroni/Ravioli
Canned Cranberry Sauce
Canned Fruit
Canned Meats of any kind (including tuna)
Canned Soup
Canned Tomatoes
Canned Vegetables
Canned Yams
Drink Mix
Gravy Canned or Mix
Instant Potatoes
Instant Pudding & Jell-o

There are also opportunities to volunteer at the Sunday Breakfast Mission helping distribute food boxes or serving Thanksgiving dinner.  Food box distribution occurs on November 20-21 (Monday and Tuesday) with training on November 16. There are three different ways to volunteer on Thanksgiving Day (November 23): Banquet set up (9-11 a.m.), Serving dinner (11 a.m. – 2 p.m. with 2 seatings) and Banquet cleanup (2-4 p.m.). If you are interested in volunteering for any of these opportunities please sign up in the Lobby on Sunday mornings or contact the church office.

Angel Tree

This year our Christmas service project is Angel Tree through the Prison Fellowship. This ministry serves children who have a parent incarcerated during the holidays. You must register to participate in this program. You can participate in one of the following ways:

  • Purchase two gifts (one clothing and one toy) for the child you selected
  • Bake cookies for the Angel Tree Party (due December 3)
  • Volunteer at the Angel Tree Party on Saturday, December 9

Register at the table in the Lobby on Sunday mornings beginning November 5. You will receive details about the child’s wish list upon registering, gifts are tailored for each child. Gifts are due back to the church by November 26.

The Angel Tree Christmas party will be held on Saturday, December 9, 12–2 p.m. at Hanover Presbyterian Church (1801 N. Jefferson Street, Wilmington). If you would like to be a helper at the party, call the church office at 302-478-4255 or sign up in the Lobby. Greeters, servers, and people to transport the gifts are all needed at the party.
